About the Chat Line

Faces of the Chat Line

4-8 July, 1999 XVI Soroptimist International Convention, Helsinki, Finland

This web page forms part of a Soroptimist International Chat Line project instigated by Chat Line List Owner Kate Moore. Kate appealed to Chat Line members attending the 1999 XVI Soroptimist International Convention to form a press gang to report on 'Helsinki meetings, events and happenings'. The team was coordinated by Joc Hanby. Daily email messages were sent to the Chat Line and this web page was utilised as a repository to collate the postings and display them on the World Wide Web so that all members could be virtual participants at the Convention.

To assist those members that wish to print out the reports to share at meetings, the individual reports are available in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. You must have the free Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer to view and print the proceedings. If a report is available in PDF format, the PDF icon will be a clickable link to enable you to download the file.

Where photographs are available you will see a camera.gif - 997 Bytes. Clicking on the image will allow you to see them.

helsinki.pdf - 332 Kb The complete set of Convention reports including a contents page can be downloaded here. There are 81 pages in a PDF file of 332 Kb and each of the reports is bookmarked. PDF files for each day of the Convention are available from the web page for the day.

Who Are We?

Have you ever been asked "What's a Soroptimist?" Have you ever been stuck for an answer? At the Board Meeting the following one sentence explanation was agreed:

"We are a worldwide organisation for women in management and professions working through service projects to advance human rights and the status of women."

Please encourage everyone to make use of this whenever they can.
